Project Lunky Item Converter & Anomalies Guide — How the Hidden Systems Work

2025-07-05·6 min read

Beyond the Warfstache Shop, Project Lunky hides two deeper systems that most players miss entirely: the Item Converter and Anomalies. Lixian built these as late-game mechanics for players who want to push beyond the standard escape loop.

What is the Item Converter?

The Item Converter is a machine found in rare lab rooms (roughly 1 in 5 runs). It looks like a glowing pedestal with two slots — you place an item in the left slot, and it transforms into something else in the right slot. The conversion follows specific rules:

3 Coins1 Random Health Item

Useful early when you need healing but can't afford the Warfstache Shop

Health Boost IDamage Up I

Swap survivability for offense — good if you're confident in dodging

Speed Boost IIPink Mustache Shield

One of the best conversions. Trade speed for a free lethal-hit absorber

Any 2 Tier I Items1 Random Tier II Item

The converter combines two weak items into one stronger one

Lunky's Revenge???

Converting the legendary item produces an unknown result. Community is still testing.

How Anomalies Work

Anomalies are random modifiers that can appear on any lab level after Level 2. They change the rules of that specific floor — some helpful, some deadly. Lixian confirmed in his Unity devlogthat Anomalies were inspired by roguelite "curse" systems.

Red Fog

Hazard

Visibility reduced to 3 meters. Enemies glow faintly.

Double Coins

Blessing

All coin drops are doubled. Doesn't affect shop prices.

Lunky's Shadow

Hazard

A second Lunky stalks you. Faster than normal, but takes only 1 hit to kill.

Warfstache's Favor

Blessing

Shop prices halved for this floor only.

Gravity Shift

Neutral

Jump height doubled, fall damage enabled. Changes platforming entirely.

Portuguese Whispers

Lore

Portuguese text flashes on screen periodically. May contain secret code hints.

Best Strategies

  • Always convert surplus Tier I items — a random Tier II is almost always better than two Tier I's
  • If you see "Warfstache's Favor" anomaly, save your coins and buy everything at the shop on that floor
  • During "Red Fog," use the block mechanic constantly — enemies can ambush from outside your visibility range
  • "Portuguese Whispers" anomaly may contain secret code fragments — screenshot every flash
